Maybe he's referencing the fact that, as most men reach full maturity, the thickness and density of their beards increases.
As an example, the beards of men who are 35 tend to be significantly thicker and fuller than the beards of men who are 25.
Of course, there are always exceptions.
Regardless, it's a good idea to shave frequently with an electric. Foils tend to do best on 1 day's growth, while rotary can easily handle 2-3 days. More usually results in pulling/tugging of hairs, and that's what the OP said is happening.
Thanks to a platinum blond beard, I do not *have* to shave daily to maintain my appearance, but I usually do. It takes several days of growth to be visible, despite significant length. (My beard grows very fast...it goes soft in 3 days)
My most comfortable shave results from every-other-day shaving with a Philips. My closest (by a "razor" thin margin) is achieved by a daily shave with a Panasonic foil.

And you would define a "...full, grown-up beard", as what?
In addition, you still aren't making any sense, Jarret. If you have a "...full, grown-up beard", you obviously aren't shaving every day with an electric shaver, now are you?

Jarhead,
I have a 985RX, and the R2 resistor under the batteries has two black bands side by side at the bottom of the resistor. That end is facing the bottom of the shaver. I hope that this helps you out a little.
I would have posted sooner, but couldn't find the shaver, sorry.

It sounds like you haven't been shaving for a really long time (at least electric) so you may find your technique improving on those areas as time goes by.
You may also find that there are a few spots the electric cannot reach, at least without taking a lot of time and causing irritation.
I have that problem on my Adam's apple. For it, I just use a inexpensive manual razor with a flexing blade. It takes only a few seconds -- much less time than trying different angles every day to cut those few hairs.

Jarret,
With all due respect, your response is an over-generalization...in short, just not true. It really depends on the person/their face/beard/shaver used.
I just shaved a 3 day growth using my Panasonic LA93, and it was like a "hot knife going through butter"...no problems whatsover.
JoeD reiterates this in his post above, using a Braun.
Cheers, Joe

I've always used a Braun and have had the same problem Monday morning (I don't like to shave on weekends), until I upgraded from a 360 Complete (which I think is very similar to the activator line) to the Series 7. That's one of the things I really love about the Series 7 compared to every other shaver I've owned. At one point over the summer, I was on vacation and went I think 7 days without shaving, and when I finally shaved again, I can honestly say that I had no pain whatsoever, even though I went right in with the electric razor and didn't use a beard trimmer or anything. Yeah, I had to go over the same area more than I normally would, but there was zero pain/tugging. No way would that have been the case with the 360 Complete or any other shaver I previously owned.

When using an electric shaver, you have to shave every day.

Hello, I recently bought a replacement head and blade for my activator. But I have found that if I don't shave for a few days the new head will rip hair out rather than cut. It dosent happen a lot but when it does I just feel like throwing it into the bin Anybody else had this problem. The hair dosent have to be that lone either.
