The $3 electric shaver.

Today, I was shopping at the nearby Super Dollar Depot store when I noticed a battery operated electric shaver in the personal care department which was marked at $3. Curiousity got the best of me so I bought it. Here are the details: It's a battery operated shaver which has a single foil and a design similar to 1990s vintage Braun shavers. It was packaged in a blister pack and comes with two AA batteries, a cleaning brush and a PVC carrying case. The foil has a protective cover. It has a pop-up trimmer but the design of the trimmer, popping up at a 92 degree angle made for awkward sideburn trimming. I'll try shaving with it tomorrow morning as my whiskers (thanks to my Philishave Quadra which I usually use) are not long enough yet. It comes with a one year warranty through "Clear Path Electronic Company USA" The warranty card says to send the faulty shaver along with a check or money order for $4.95 (it's cheaper to get another shaver, of course) to 1858 Star-Batt Dr., Rochester Hills, Michigan 48309. It's made in China and says "Manufactured for: Seasonal International Inc., Rochester Hills, MI 48309 USA. The label gave the suggested retail price of $29.95. With the cheap-feeling plastic shaver housing, I think that it was intended to be sold for $3 at dollar stores. Has anyone tried this type of shaver? If yes can you post your review?

I have never tried this type of shaver, but I do encourage anyone who has to come forth with a review, as Gary requested.

I tried out the $3 shaver this morning. The shave was OK, considering that I used a light hand when I used the shaver knowing the previous bad experience I had with foil shavers. As expected with foil shavers, it did a terrible job on long and flattened-down whiskers in the neck area. I did not press down when I tried head shaving not knowing how flexible the foil is and I did not want to risk breaking the foil knowing how nasty that can be. After I finished with the $3 shaver, I finished shaving the neck and the top of my head with my usual corded Philishave Quadra shaver. They say you get what you pay for, but the $3 shaver seems to do an OK job for a foil shaver. While I am bald, I have a few scraggly hairs I can't control so I shave them off. I have my mom's genes as far as baldness is concerned. My mom's late father was bald was well as her brothers. My mom's maiden name is Phillips (not related to the shaver company founders although I would love to have Frits Philips as an uncle).
