Braun 7680/7526 battery replacement
« Thread started on: Mar 7th, 2010, 11:09am »

Hi all--
Hopefully someone has done this before and can help guide me through...I don't want to mess it up!
I have new batteries to replace the dead ones on my two Braun Syncros. The old batteries are soldered to the PCBoard (the tabs from each end of the batteries extend through holes in the board and are soldered to the board from the other side). The batteries are also strongly attached to the board by some kind of double-sided stickum. I am finding it difficult to "un-solder" the old batteries and apply enough pressure to pull the batteries off, since I only have two hands! Of course I want to be delicate enough not to damage the boards. Anyone have any hints?
Thanks!

Would it help if:

Before unsoldering, you cut the battery tabs free of the batteries on the battery side of the board with miniature diagonal cutters, the kind that are used when working in close quarters on circuit boards. Then with the batteries free of the tabs, you could pry the batteries away from the board, using a penknife perhaps to free them from the “stickum'”. Finally, with the batteries free of the board, you could flip the board over and desolder the tabs using a desoldering wick, pulling the tabs through the tab slots to the (former) battery side of the board with needle nose pliers.

Let us know how it all turns out.

Why not leave the old tabs on the circuit board and just solder the new battery tabs to them?. Less chance of damaging the circuit board.

What is the proper procedure for opening up a 7526 syncro so that you can get to the batteries?.

That's weird my quote got combined with the OP's message, I'll try again.

How do you disassemble a 7526 syncro so that you can get to the batteries and circuit board. I can't seem to find a printed procedure for it.

Braun 5510 Battery Replacement

Not the model under discussion but interesting nonetheless.

See the discussion on Braun's "poison pill" designed to prevent owners from replacing the battery.

The original tabs may have been spot welded to the battery during battery manufacture, in which case it may be difficult to detach them from the old battery while leaving them soldered to the circuit board. Which is why I recommended cutting the tabs from the old battery and flipping the board over to de-solder (using a soldering wick) whatever remained of the old tabs from the board.
